Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senators Jacky Rosen (D-Nev.) and Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) released a statement announcing that the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has awarded $2,082,648 to the state of Nevada to help communities across the Silver State provide meals for older adults.
“These funds will help support Nevada’s seniors by ensuring they’re able to receive meals as they stay safe at home during the coronavirus pandemic to protect themselves from the virus,” said the senators. “We will continue working in Washington to prioritize the needs of Nevada’s most vulnerable populations as we combat this crisis.”
BACKGROUND:
The Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which Senators Rosen and Cortez Masto voted for earlier this month, provided these additional funds for nutrition services programs authorized by the Older Americans Act (OAA) of 1965. These funds will be administered by Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) from the Administration for Community Living (ACL) to states to help communities provide meals for older adults.
Older adults who need assistance can contact the Eldercare Locator to find services available in their community. The Eldercare Locator can be reached at 1-800-677-1116 or https://eldercare.acl.gov/.
