Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) today released the following statement on the 11th anniversary of the passage of the Affordable Care Act, which President Obama signed into law on March 23, 2010. Cortez Masto released a new video this morning detailing crucial provisions of the American Rescue Plan she worked to secure in order to protect and expand access to quality, affordable health care.
“It has never been more urgent for Nevadans to be able to access quality, affordable care, which is why I worked to make sure the American Rescue Plan would strengthen the Affordable Care Act and expand health care access across Nevada. The ACA has saved countless lives and protected hundreds of thousands of Nevadans with pre-existing conditions, and this new law will help deliver expanded ACA subsidies to make health care more affordable for more families while also expanding Medicaid coverage and behavioral health care services. Protecting and enhancing Nevadans’ health care access is my top priority, and I’ll continue working to make sure Silver State communities have the support they need to stay safe and healthy.”
Senator Cortez Masto helped ensure that the American Rescue Plan included expanded ACA subsidies that help people purchase insurance and cover out-of-pocket costs. In addition, Cortez Masto worked to deliver 100% COBRA subsidies as part of the American Rescue Plan to help laid off or furloughed workers keep the high-quality health care plans they’ve spent years fighting for.
The American Rescue Plan:
- increases ACA subsidies for the 60,000 Nevadans who already qualify;
- makes an additional 40,000 currently uninsured Nevadans eligible for ACA subsidies for the first time;
- makes those who are collecting unemployment eligible for zero-dollar premium health plans and cost sharing reductions that help pay copays and deductibles;
- includes expanded Medicaid coverage for postpartum women;
- guarantees that laid off and furloughed workers in the Silver State and across the country who don’t get their coverage through the exchange can keep their plan with COBRA subsidies; and
- incentivizes states to expand services for those in behavioral health crisis.
