In Reno, Cortez Masto Discusses Mental Health Resources Available to Nevada Youth at Roundtable with Local Organizations and Advocates

Cortez Masto joined representatives from Nevada Children’s Mobile Crisis Response Team (MCRT), Nevada Division of Child and Family Services, Nevada Medicaid, Wraparound in Nevada, Nevada Rural Hospital Partners, and National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Nevada.

Reno, Nev. – Today, U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) joined local mental health organizations and advocates at a roundtable to highlight mental health support available to Reno youth and their families. Cortez Masto heard about Nevada’s work to provide and expand crisis care services and discussed her comprehensive efforts to deliver more resources to support Nevadans’ mental health care needs.

“We’ve seen the lifesaving support behavioral health crisis services can provide for our youth, and I’m fighting in the Senate to help every Nevadan access quality, timely mental health care,” said Senator Cortez Masto. “From expanding the availability of mobile crisis units to getting funding for more mental health professionals, this is not a partisan issue, and I’ll keep working with colleagues on both sides of the aisle to help Nevadans get the care they need.”

Senator Cortez Masto has been a leader in the Senate on mental health issues. She passed the CAHOOTS Act as part of the American Rescue Plan to fund mobile crisis response teams in Medicaid. She has also helped implement the nation’s 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, expand wrap-around mental health services, and deliver $1 billion for school mental health services in the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act. She’s continuing to advocate for legislation that will increase access to behavioral health crisis care for all Nevadans.
