Cortez Masto: Trump Tearing Apart Hardworking Families

Reno, Nev. – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) released the following statement after the Department of Homeland Security announced today that it would end Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for over 57,000 Honduran nationals:

“President Trump’s TPS decision is an attack on hardworking families in Nevada. Honduran nationals receiving TPS work in our communities and strengthen our state. These families fled violence to rebuild their lives and provide a better future for their children. Yet again, President Trump has shown his willingness to attack the immigrant community based on a xenophobic agenda. This decision is a reminder that President Trump and his administration care little, if at all, about the wellbeing of hardworking families and are willing to tear them apart. We need a permanent solution to protect TPS families, and the Safe Environment from Countries Under Repression and Emergency (SECURE) Act would do just that. I urge my colleagues to support this bill to prevent this assault on families in Nevada, and across our country.”
