Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) released the following statement criticizing President Trump for moving forward with his ban on transgender Americans serving in the military:
“President Trump has attacked Americans based on the color of their skin, their immigration status, their lack of wealth, their physical ability and their gender identity. We should not be fooled by the new version of this ban – let’s be clear, it still aims at undermining the ability of transgender Americans to serve in our military. Trump’s transgender ban will be harmful to our military and to our national security. Members of our armed services – LGBTQ and straight – devote their lives to protecting and serving this country. It is unacceptable for their commander-in-chief to turn his back on them simply because of who they are or who they love.
“I will work with my colleagues to protect transgender service members, as well as rescind policies that sow hate in our military. Discrimination has no place in our military, in Congress, or in this White House.”
