Ely, Nev. – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) released the following statement after touring Great Basin National Park:
“Great Basin National Park is a prime example of why we must protect our nation’s natural wonders and preserve their beauty for future generations. Our state is blessed with incomparable beauty and we cannot take it for granted. Not only do our national parks protect pristine lands, they create jobs and attract tourists who bring revenue to local businesses and vendors. Safeguarding the future of our national parks is not only sound environmental policy, it is sound economic policy.
“In fact, President Theodore Roosevelt set the foundation for this tradition and significant deviations from this legacy goes against our country’s heritage and way of life. Americans believe that the way we treat our environment impacts our communities and our economies. There is no better example of this than Nevada. I invite Republican leaders to tour places like Great Basin so they may see the beauty of these natural landscapes that must be protected for future generations.”
