Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) issued the following statement on her vote against Dan Brouillette’s nomination to be Secretary of the Department of Energy during a business meeting of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee.
“While I enjoyed meeting with Mr. Brouillette, under his and Secretary Perry’s leadership the state of Nevada has continued to battle with the Administration over Yucca Mountain, seen the secret shipment of weapons grade plutonium into our state and had shipments of mislabeled waste sent to the Nevada National Security Site. My vote against Mr. Brouillette is a vote of concern against the Department of Energy’s relationship with the state of Nevada. I hope that relationship improves, that Mr. Brouillette and the department he may lead will step up and restore that trust with the state of Nevada, and that nothing new shocks the Silver State.”
