Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) released the following statement after Pesident Trump’s trip to San Diego, California:
“It is unfortunate that President Trump’s first visit to California is to examine prototypes for his monumentally wasteful and ill-conceived southern border wall. The President doesn’t know how to build a Cabinet let alone a wall. President Trump’s continued insistence on a costly and ineffective wall does nothing to improve our national security and shows that his Administration is more concerned with perpetuating his anti-immigrant agenda than with fixing our broken immigration system or protecting Dreamers.”
“Instead of tearing apart immigrant families, and creating fear and uncertainty, we should be working to implement measures that actually enhance our national security. An administration serious about fixing our broken immigration system and protecting Dreamers from deportation should proactively be working to find solutions. Instead we have more uncertainty, crisis and ignorance from this White House. President Trump needs to get out of the way of Congress so that we can reach an agreement that puts young people on a pathway to citizenship, creates jobs and grows our economy.”
