Cortez Masto Statement on President Biden’s Pardons

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) released the following statement in response to former President Biden’s January 20th preemptive pardons of his family members and other public figures, as well as his decision to commute the life sentence of Leonard Peltier, who was convicted of murdering of two FBI agents in 1975.

“The presidential pardon shouldn’t be used for friends and family, or preemptively,” said Senator Cortez Masto. “And, I don’t think President Biden should have commuted the sentence of Leonard Peltier either. He was convicted of killing two FBI agents, and we shouldn’t give a pass to people who attack law enforcement officers – no matter which party is in power.”
