Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) released the following statement condemning today’s vote in the House of Representatives to pass tax legislation that benefit corporations on the backs of middle class families:
“House Republicans have once again refused to engage with Democrats in a bipartisan process to reform our nation’s tax code. Today they have voted to pass legislation that, over time, amounts to nothing more than a tax increase for working families and a permanent tax cut for major corporations. It’s shocking that the party of fiscal responsibility voted for an irresponsible tax plan that will expand the deficit by $1.5 trillion while simultaneously raising taxes on 36 million working and middle class families. This bill makes it harder for working and middle class Nevadans to afford health care, for teachers to pay for their student’s school supplies, for middle class families to send their kids to college, and for younger Americans to realize their dream of purchasing their first home. Republicans have shown Americans their top priority: showering giant corporations with an enormous tax break.”
