Washington, DC – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) today released the following statement opposing Rep. Mick Mulvaney’s nomination to be the next Office of Management and Budget Director:
“Rep. Mulvaney’s misguided beliefs on government spending runs counter to the Office of Management and Budget’s role of responsibly overseeing the government’s fiscal policy. He is well known for spending his congressional career strongly opposing federal spending, disregarding the catastrophic long term economic impacts of breaching the debt limit, advocating for irresponsibly shutting down the government and even refusing to give emergency financial aid to communities ravaged by natural disasters. Rep. Mulvaney’s repeated calls to slash Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security are a reckless affront to the millions of Americans who rely on these programs. If confirmed, Rep. Mulvaney would gladly lead the repeal of the Affordable Care Act and defund Planned Parenthood. These are just a few of the reasons why I cannot support him to be our next OMB Director.”
