Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) today released the following statement marking one year since Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico.
“One year ago, our government failed at its most fundamental duty – protecting its citizens – and almost 3,000 Americans lost their lives. There is no way to repair that damage. But Congress can and must hold this Administration accountable for its unequal treatment of Puerto Rico and ensure that the island receives the necessary federal investment and assistance for its recovery. We owe that to the 3.4 million U.S. citizens who call Puerto Rico home.”
