Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) released the following statement in recognition of Immigrant Heritage Month:
“In June, we honor immigrants and their numerous contributions to our communities. For those of us who descended from immigrants, we celebrate our ancestors and thank them for their perseverance in pursuit of a better life. Many of them made epic, dangerous journeys across oceans and continents. They left their homes and risked their lives so that we could have a brighter, more prosperous future. Because of immigrants, American culture is a beautiful, multi-colored tapestry of interwoven customs, cuisines, and traditions. This diversity is the source of our strength as a nation. It is also what makes us exceptional. In honor of our immigrant heritage, we must reaffirm our commitment to the words inscribed on the Statue of Liberty and continue to serve as a beacon of hope and opportunity for people all over the world.”
