Reno, Nev. – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) released the following statement on Cecile Richards’ announcement that she will retire as president of Planned Parenthood after 12 years of service:
“I cannot thank Cecile Richards enough for the work she has done as a champion for women’s rights and for staunchly defending a woman’s right to her own body. Her accomplishments in our fight for equality and women’s reproductive rights are immeasurable and especially important given the current toxic climate of sexism, misogyny and patriarchal oppression perpetuated by Republican leadership and the Trump Administration. We must honor Cecile’s legacy by continuing the fight to protect women from all walks of life – allowing them the right to choose and giving them the opportunity to live healthy, productive lives.”
