Cortez Masto, Rosen Support Renaming Henderson Post Office to Honor Veterans

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) and Jacky Rosen (D-Nev.) wrote a letter in support of H.R. 1198, which would officially rename a post office in Henderson as the “Henderson Veterans Memorial Post Office Building” to honor the legacy of military personnel and veterans in the area. H.R.1198 was introduced by Rep. Susie Lee and has the support of the full Nevada delegation in the U.S. House of Representatives. This legislation passed the House unanimously.

“Henderson has a strong military heritage, and we support furthering the memorialization of its deep connection with our military community by renaming the Boulder Highway Post Office as the “Veterans Memorial Post Office”,” said the Senators. “We are proud to offer our support for this bill, and appreciate your consideration of this legislation.”

Dear Chairman Johnson and Ranking Member Peters,

We write in support of H.R. 1198, a bill to designate the facility of the United States Postal Service located at 404 South Boulder Highway in Henderson, Nevada, as the “Henderson Veterans Memorial Post Office Building”.

The City of Henderson has a distinguished military history, which is why we support its postal facility bearing a name that honors our veterans. During World War II, the City of Henderson was established as a 2,800-acre Basic Magnesium Inc. industrial plant built to produce magnesium for munitions, engines, airplane frames, and numerous other crucial components of the war effort. Since its inception, Henderson has maintained this close relationship with its military heritage. In 1994, the City chose to honor its military heritage by dedicating the only Veterans Memorial Wall in Southern Nevada, engraved with the names of over 1,200 service members from the community. Today, over 1,800 names adorn the wall, which sits adjacent to city hall.

Henderson has a strong military heritage, and we support furthering the memorialization of its deep connection with our military community by renaming the Boulder Highway Post Office as the “Veterans Memorial Post Office”. We are proud to offer our support for this bill, and appreciate your consideration of this legislation. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact our staff.
