Nevada Senators Secured More Than $147 Million For 76 Nevada Projects In First Bipartisan Government Funding Package For FY24
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) Senators Jacky Rosen (D-Nev.) announced that they have secured more than $147 million in Community Project Funding to support 76 projects across Nevada as part of the first bipartisan government funding package for Fiscal Year 2024. This funding includes more than $7 million for nine law enforcement projects in the state. Both senators submitted these project funding requests in the spring of 2023 and ensured they were included in this bipartisan government funding package that is expected to pass the U.S. Senate and be signed into law this week.
Projects also include funding to improve transportation infrastructure throughout Nevada, construct additional on-base dorms at Nellis Air Force Base, support Tribal communities, invest in water infrastructure, and deliver priorities for the Nevada Army National Guard.
“This funding I secured will help communities across Nevada support their law enforcement officers, upgrade critical infrastructure, support our military installations, and create new jobs and economic opportunity for hardworking families,” said Senator Cortez Masto.“From Elko to Henderson, I’ll continue to fight in the Senate to deliver resources and support to every corner of the Silver State.”
“I’m proud to have helped secure more than $147 million for much-needed Nevada projects in the first bipartisan government funding package for this year, which includes investments in law enforcement and public safety,” said Senator Rosen. “This funding will support police officers and help them fight crime across our state, improve transportation infrastructure, upgrade our water infrastructure, invest in Tribal communities, and deliver for Nevada’s military bases and servicemembers. I’ll always push for Nevada to receive its fair share of federal dollars.”
Senators Cortez Masto and Rosen reached out directly to local and Tribal governments, public colleges, and military installations across Nevada to ensure they requested funding for projects that will make a difference for Nevada residents. They will continue to work to quickly pass this bipartisan government funding package and get Nevada communities the federal dollars and support they deserve and need.
Some law enforcement initiatives that will be made possible through funding include:
- Supporting mental health initiatives for the Reno Police Department.
- Purchasing new crime-preventing technology and equipment for the Lander County Sheriff’s Office.
- Upgrading equipment and patrol vehicles for Reno-Sparks Indian Colony police officers.
- Replacing outdated technology and vehicles for the City of North Las Vegas.
- Investing in new instruments to upgrade and access DNA databases for public safety for the Reno and Sparks Police Departments, and the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office.
- Replacing an emergency response vehicle for the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
- Helping relocate the McCarran Sheriff’s Office Substation in Storey County.
