Cortez Masto, Rosen Applaud Affordable Housing Grant for Winnemucca Indian Colony

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) and Jacky Rosen (D-Nev.) applauded the Indian Housing Block Grant (IHBG) program for awarding Winnemucca Indian Colony $825,093 to fund affordable housing initiatives.

“This funding will help the Winnemucca Indian Colony provide quality affordable housing for hardworking Native American families. We will continue working in the Senate to secure critical federal investments that improve Nevada’s affordable housing supply and support our tribal communities.”

BACKGROUND:

The Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Indian Housing Block Grant (IHBG) program provides eligible tribes and tribally-designated housing entities (TDHEs) with grant funding to carry out a range of affordable housing activities. Grant funds may be used to develop, maintain, and operate affordable housing in safe and healthy environments on Indian reservations and in other Indian areas, and carry out other affordable housing activities. Grant funds must be used to primarily benefit low-income Native American families.
