Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) and Jacky Rosen (D-Nev.) released the following statement announcing $14,882,662 in grants awarded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to Native American communities across Nevada for the development and operation of affordable housing.
“When families have safe, affordable housing, our communities thrive,” said the Senators. “These grants will provide Native American communities across Nevada with vital resources to develop and maintain quality, affordable housing units. These critical investments will improve the quality of life for families throughout the Silver State. We’ll keep fighting to ensure Nevada’s tribes receive the full funding they deserve.”
BACKGROUND:
Under the Native American Housing Assistance and Self-Determination Act of 1996, the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) provides grants to Indian tribes and Alaska Native villages for the development and operation of low-income housing. The IHBG program will assist grant recipients with affordable housing activities in safe and healthy environments on Indian reservations, in Indian communities, and in Native Alaskan villages.
