Cortez Masto, Rosen Announce More Than $6 Million to Expand Port of Nevada

Las Vegas, Nev. – Today, U.S. Senators Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) Jacky Rosen (D-Nev.) announced that Nevada will receive $6.1 million to support northern Nevada’s economy by expanding the Port of Nevada in Fernley. This expansion will include additional industrial building space, more acres of container storage yards, 20,000 feet of new rail, and a 10-acre commercial district to support the on-site workforce. The funding comes after Senator Rosen sent a letter urging DOT to consider the Northern Nevada Development Authority’s application for this funding.

“This new investment in Northern Nevada’s rail infrastructure will create jobs and help grow our local economy,” said Senator Cortez Masto. “The Port of Nevada will also provide a great opportunity for local manufacturing and technology companies to have faster, more reliable access to critical supply chains. I’m proud to see it funded.”

“The Port of Nevada is crucial for northern Nevada’s economy and local jobs. I’m proud to have helped secure more than $6 million dollars to support and expand this critical port,” said Senator Rosen. “I’ll keep working to deliver the resources Nevada needs to grow and diversify its economic and transportation sectors.”

Senator Cortez Masto and Senator Rosen have been strong supporters of the rail economy in Nevada. Earlier this year, both Senators and other Nevada lawmakers announced over $28 million for Elko rail corridor enhancement through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law they helped pass. After this application was submitted, Senators Cortez Masto and Rosen led a bipartisan group of colleagues in voicing their strong support of the project. Thanks to their efforts, they’ve secured $3 billion in federal funding to bring high-speed rail to Las Vegas.
