Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) and Jacky Rosen (D-Nev.) announced that Nevada will receive $15,222,751 to help families lower their energy costs and fund energy efficient home repairs through the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). Senators Cortez Masto and Rosen secured this funding in the most recent government funding bill and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
“Thousands of Nevadans rely on this funding to help pay their energy bills and make critical upgrades to their homes ahead of the winter season,” said Senator Cortez Masto. “I’ll always support efforts to lower costs for our working families.”
“Spikes in energy prices are hurting Nevadans’ budgets, and we must do everything we can to lower costs for hardworking families,” said Senator Rosen. “As the winter season approaches, I’m proud to have helped secure more than $15 million to help bring down heating costs for Nevada families.”
The LIHEAP program helps low-income families across Nevada reduce the costs of home heating and cooling bills, reconnect energy services that have been disconnected, prevent energy shutoffs, and make energy-related home repairs. Senators Cortez Masto and Rosen have been pushing to lower costs for Nevada families. They’ve championed critical legislation to alleviate supply chain bottlenecks and have asked the administration to better utilize LIHEAP funds in order to help Americans struggling with the high costs of heating and cooling their homes. Senator Cortez Masto has also introduced bicameral legislation to provide the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) with additional authority to protect consumers from the harm caused by traders that repeatedly manipulate electricity and natural gas markets.
