Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senators Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) and Jacky Rosen (D-Nev.) announced $18,957,436 in grant funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) to support road safety projects across Nevada. These grants include $8.4 million to support pedestrian safety in East Las Vegas and $8.9 million for road improvements along Reno’s East Sixth Street.
“Keeping Nevadans safe is my top priority, and these critical investments will save lives by helping Nevada communities implement pedestrian safety plans and make vital infrastructure improvements,” said Senator Cortez Masto. “I’m proud to have helped deliver this funding and I’ll continue working to make Nevada’s roads safer and keep our communities connected.”
“It’s critical that communities across Nevada have reliable transportation infrastructure that keeps pedestrians and passengers safe,” said Senator Rosen. “I’m glad this funding will improve road safety throughout our state and help protect Nevadans while on the road.”
Grant funding from the DOT will be distributed as follows:
- $8,377,460 to help the City of Las Vegas implement a variety of traffic safety projects in East Las Vegas, including pedestrian beacons, better lighting and pavement markings, and traffic signal improvements. The grant will also fund a project near Hollingsworth STEAM Academy to help keep students safe walking to and from school.
- $1,508,000 for the Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Southern Nevada to update its existing regional safety action plan.
- $8,963,112 for the Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Washoe County to fund road improvements along East Sixth Street in Downtown Reno, including the construction ofhigh-visibility crosswalks, street light enhancements, and more accessible bus stops.
- $108,864 to help the Shoshone Paiute Tribes develop a comprehensive safety action plan.
Senators Cortez Masto and Rosen worked to pass the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to create good-paying jobs and upgrade road infrastructure in Nevada. As part of her Innovation State Initiative, Senator Cortez Masto secured multiple transportation provisions in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to help Nevada communities plan for and build infrastructure for electric vehicles, make transit to school safer for students, and support smart cities that use technology to solve transportation challenges.
