Cortez Masto, Rosen Announce $1.1 Million in Emergency Preparedness Funding

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) and Jacky Rosen (D-Nev.) applauded a $1,131,447 grant to the State of Nevada from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to fund pre-disaster mitigation projects.

“These funds will help increase the resiliency of communities across Nevada in the face of possible wildfires, winter storms, floods or other natural disasters. The safety of Nevada families is our top priority, and we’ll continue to fight for federal resources that help ensure the Silver State is well prepared to handle any potential emergency.”

BACKGROUND:

FEMA’s Pre-Disaster Mitigation Grant Program will provide funding to the State of Nevada to assist local governments, tribes and communities in implementing a sustained pre-disaster natural hazard mitigation program. This program awards planning and project grants and provides opportunities for raising public awareness about reducing future losses before disaster strikes.
