Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) released the following statement after Senator McConnell failed to act on bipartisan priorities for Nevadans and shutdown the government:
“Senator Mitch McConnell had a year to act on securing the long-term funding the American people so desperately need, but he failed to deliver, and has allowed this President to threaten the lives and futures of Dreamers. Now, President Trump and Senator McConnell are forcing Americans to choose between funding our military over fighting the opioid epidemic in Nevada, and forcing Americans to choose between funding community health centers and rural hospitals over providing health care to low income kids. Americans are tired of being pitted against one another. There are bipartisan solutions in Congress to address these and many other challenges confronting our country. Why are Senator McConnell and President Trump blocking the Senate from acting on them? I will stay in Washington to work with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to solve them. We must forge a bipartisan compromise that puts Dreamers on a pathway to citizenship and act on legislation that ensures the long-term health, economic and security needs of all Nevadans.”
