Senator Cortez Masto meets with Nevada UnitedHealthcare CEO Donald J. Giancursio
Las Vegas, Nev. – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) released the following statement after her tour of UnitedHealthcare’s BriovaRx of Nevada’s Specialty Pharmacy:
“I want to thank UnitedHealthcare for inviting me to tour their facility yesterday and for their work to relieve the burden of healthcare costs for victims and survivors of the massacre at the Route 91 Harvest Festival. Our community came together after 1October to deliver supplies, donate blood, and construct beautiful memorials in honor of the lives that were taken. From the Casinos on the Strip, to health providers like UnitedHealthcare, everyone worked side by side to help our city heal and recover. I am grateful for the support UnitedHealthcare provided in the immediate aftermath of the senseless violence we witnessed on 1October by waiving costs for grieving families and survivors of the attack, and in their engagement in our community in the weeks and months since the attack. We still remain Vegas Strong.”
BACKGROUND:
In response to an inquiry from Senator Cortez Masto, UnitedHealthcare of Southern Nevada released a letter detailing the steps their organization took in the wake of the 1October massacre. The letter explains that UnitedHealthcare waived all cost-sharing (deductibles, copays, coinsurance, etc.) for fully-insured UnitedHealthcare consumers affected by the shooting, deployed approximately 60 behavioral health specialists to the Las Vegas area, provided a free emotional-support helpline, and coordinated with American Red Cross and United Blood Services to maintain an adequate blood supply for survivors.
