Cortez Masto Joins Bipartisan Bill to Support Construction of New VA Hospital in Reno

The bipartisan legislation would authorize construction of 11 VA medical facilities across the nation, including in Reno

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) joined bipartisan legislation led by Jon Tester (D-Mont.) and Jerry Moran (R-Kan.) to authorize several Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) construction projects across the nation, including for a new veterans hospital in Reno. Senator Cortez Masto, along with Senator Jacky Rosen (D-Nev.), successfully pushed for a new facility to replace the existing VA Sierra Nevada Health Care System’s medical center to be included in the President’s Fiscal Year 2024 budget.

“An upgraded, 21st-century facility is critical to best serve Northern Nevada’s veterans—that’s why I’m fighting to pass this bipartisan legislation to help make the new facility a reality,” said Senator Cortez Masto. “I’ll keep working to make sure all the brave men and women who served our country get the high-quality care they deserve.”

The Fiscal Year 2024 Veterans Affairs Major Medical Facility Authorization Act would authorize 11 VA construction projects in Washington, Texas, Maryland, Oregon, Nevada, California, Puerto Rico, Missouri, and Connecticut.

Senator Cortez Masto is a champion for our service members and their families, as well as our veterans. She secured the expansion of the Fallon Range Training Complex through the FY2023 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). She passed her Brian Neuman Act to remove roadblocks for disabled veterans accessing their benefits. She also passed the PACT Act to ensure veterans suffering from toxic exposure in the line of duty get the medical care they need and worked across the aisle to get legislation helping veterans exposed to Agent Orange and expanding benefits for women veterans signed into law.
