Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) released the following statement celebrating Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, which falls on Monday, January 20th.
“Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. is an American hero because he stood up to injustice in all its forms and challenged our nation to live up to its founding promises. Dr. King showed us that all struggles for justice are interconnected—that racism, violence, and hatred go hand-in-hand, and that the strongest remedy for them lies in a love that challenges division and bigotry. His commitment to standing up to oppression and fighting for equality helped create a blueprint for generations of leaders to follow. I’m grateful to stand with so many Nevadans who work every day to work in a loving way for justice in our communities. On this national celebration of Dr. King’s birthday, let us all resolve to act boldly in fulfilling our nation’s promises of fairness and freedom, as he called on us to do. ”
