Cortez Masto Highlights President Biden’s Executive Action On Immigration At Roundtable Discussion With Nevada Families

Las Vegas, Nev. – Today, U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) hosted a roundtable discussion with hardworking immigrant families and advocates at the Immigrant Home Foundation to discuss President Joe Biden’s recent executive actions on immigration. At the roundtable, Cortez Masto highlighted how these new measures, which she has long advocated for, will help Nevada keep families together.

“President Biden has taken a critical step to keep immigrant families together, and I want to thank the Immigrant Home Foundation and the families here today for sharing their stories,” said Senator Cortez Masto. “I know we have a lot more work still ahead of us to fix our broken immigration system and invest in smart, humane border security, but this is a critical step that will benefit so many Nevadans. I’m going to keep working to protect our immigrant families.”

“I’ve had DACA since the program started, and it has provided me with many opportunities to contribute to the only country I’ve ever known and love,” said Pamela, a Nevada Dreamer with a mixed-status family. “The newly announced executive actions by President Biden will benefit my family significantly as I won’t risk being separated from my family here and will be able to safely get on the path to a green card.”

The Immigrant Home Foundation (IHF) is a non-profit organization providing immigrant legal services and empowering the immigrant community in Las Vegas through education. IHF has assisted nearly 4,000 individuals in their citizenship process and nearly 6,000 Dreamers with their DACA applications.

The Biden administration’s new policy includes a family unity program for undocumented spouses of U.S. citizens who’ve lived here for more than 10 years, allowing them to stay here, get work permits and potentially apply for legal permanent residency. It will also make it easier for American employers to sponsor Dreamers for visas, creating a pathway to permanent residency in the future. Together, these actions could benefit over 500,000 people nationwide.

The first and only Latina Senator, Senator Cortez Masto has consistently pushed to fix our broken immigration system by balancing critical border security measures with a path to citizenship for Dreamers, TPS holders, and essential workers. She’s introduced legislation to fix our outdated immigration laws. She’s led calls to address delays in DACA renewal applications and make it easier for mixed status families to stay together.
