Cortez Masto, Colleagues Release New Report Highlighting How Overturning Roe Has Harmed Women Nationwide

In interviews and discussions with more than 80 doctors, educators, and advocates across the country, dire trends emerge for women in a post-Roe world, no matter where they live

Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senators Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) joined Senators Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.), Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and 14 of her Democratic colleagues in releasing a new report, detailing how the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade is harming women’s health care in states across the U.S. – whether those states have abortion bans or not.

“Leaving abortion rights up to individual states is catastrophic for women across the country whose lives and futures are being determined by anti-choice extremists,” said Senator Cortez Masto. “Nevada is a proud pro-choice state, but the overturning of Roe v. Wade has impacted all of us – from doctors in Las Vegas who are seeing hundreds of patients traveling for care to women who have been forced to flee their homes to get the support they need. I won’t stop fighting to restore reproductive freedom for all women nationwide.”

This report isbased on interviews and discussions over the past two months with more than 80 health care providers and advocates from all across the country. The report highlights that NevadaPlanned Parenthood clinics had wait times of up to 21 days immediately after Dobbs, and restrictions in neighboring states have caused providers have to hire more staff, increase telehealth services, and expand their practices. About half of the patients coming to Nevada for abortion care are now from out of state.

In addition to Senators Cortez Masto, Cantwell, and Schumer, Senators Laphonza Butler (D-Calif.), Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii), Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.), Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.), Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis.), Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), Tina Smith (D-Minn.), Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.), Patty Murray (D-Wash.), Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.), Jacky Rosen (D-Nev.), and Maggie Hassan (D-N.H.) joined today’s report.

Senator Cortez Masto has been a fierce advocate for women’s reproductive rights. Last month, she introduced legislation to repeal the Comstock Act, which anti-choice extremists want to misuse to ban abortion nationwide. She’s championed the Women’s Health Protection Act and cosponsored legislation to codify the right to contraception and IVF. She took on one of the nation’s biggest pharmaceutical wholesalers to ensure Nevadans can access the abortion pill in retail pharmacies, including Walgreens and CVS.
