Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) released the following statement announcing the transition of Communications Director Reynaldo Benitez to the role of Special Advisor based out of her Reno, Nevada office. Cortez Masto also announces that her current Deputy Communications Director, Ryan King, will become Communications Director and that she is hiring Monica Garcia, currently of the Latino Victory Fund, to join her communications staff as Deputy Communications Director.
Reynaldo Benitez worked for Senator Cortez Masto’s senate campaign and has been her communications director since her swearing-in as a United States Senator in January of 2017. He will now serve as Special Advisor to the senator in her Reno office.
Ryan King began with Senator Cortez Masto as Deputy Communications Director in July of 2017. He is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley. Ryan has served in various communications roles in both the House of Representatives and the United States Senate; starting as an intern and eventually becoming Press Advisor to House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Press Secretary to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.). He also worked as Media Relations Manager at Georgetown University where he earned a Master’s in Global Strategic Communications.
Monica Garcia currently works as Deputy Communications Director at the Latino Victory Fund. She is a graduate of Northwestern University and upon her graduation was awarded a Fulbright Fellowship to conduct research in Mexico City. Monica has served in various communications roles in the United States Senate; serving as Press Secretary for Hispanic Media for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and National Press Secretary for Senate Democratic Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.).
