Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) announced that Bridge Counseling Associates (BCA) will receive $2 million from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to support their work to provide mental health services to Nevadans.
One of the oldest and largest mental health providers, BCA was hard hit by the COVID pandemic, but they were able to keep their doors open and their employees paid thanks to a refundable tax credit for eligible businesses. When Cortez Masto learned they were struggling to get the IRS to process their application, she successfully ensured they got the funding they needed to continue providing essential services in Southern Nevada.
“All Nevadans deserve access to quality mental health care, which is why I made sure that BCA could keep its doors open and continue serving their community,” said Senator Cortez Masto. “This funding will expand their reach even further, supporting mental health and substance abuse services for thousands of Nevadans across Las Vegas.”
Specifically, these HHS Certified Community Behavioral Health Center (CCBHC) program grants will help fund mental health and addiction treatment services at BCA’s Alta and McLeod locations in Las Vegas. Cortez Masto has been a strong supporter of this program and has cosponsored legislation to expand their funding in Nevada and across the country.
Senator Cortez Masto is a leader in the Senate on mental health issues. She helped implement and fund the nation’s 988 Suicide & Crisis lifeline, passed bipartisan legislation to expand behavioral health crisis support services, and successfully fought to include $1 billion for school mental health services in the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act that was signed into law. Senator Cortez Masto secured federal funding to help Clark County School District better support students recovering from substance use disorder and mental health crises and to address the shortage of school psychologists in the state with a new training facility at Nevada State College.
