Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) released the following statement opposing Chris Wright to serve as President Donald Trump’s Secretary of Energy. The statement follows her vote against his nomination in the U.S. Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources today.
“This week, President Trump signed executive orders that will gut key energy investments in Nevada – killing jobs, raising prices, and putting our national security in danger. During his confirmation hearing, I repeatedly pressed Chris Wright about whether he would support cuts to critical Nevada programs – and he refused to answer. For those reasons, I oppose his confirmation.”
Following last week’s hearing, Senator Cortez Masto secured a commitment from Chris Wright and the Trump administration that they will not pursue the failed Yucca Mountain project. She will continue to hold the Trump Administration accountable to ensure Yucca Mountain remains dead.
