Cortez Masto, Rosen Announce $2.1 Million in Water Conservation Funding for Northern Nevada

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) and Jacky Rosen (D-Nev.) announced that the Truckee-Carson Irrigation District in Northern Nevada will receive over $2.1 million from the U.S. Department of the Interior for water delivery efficiency and infrastructure upgrades. This funding, delivered in part by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law that Cortez Masto and Rosen helped pass, will help upgrade six gates on the Lahontan Dam, saving over 782 million of gallons of water annually and helping the region combat drought.

“Protecting access to clean, reliable water sources is critical for the health, economy, and security of the Silver State,” said Senator Cortez Masto. “That is why I’m proud to have helped secure these federal funds through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to make infrastructure improvements that will help us conserve more water and combat drought across Northern Nevada.”

“In Nevada, we know just how critical it is to invest in water infrastructure and resilience,” said Senator Rosen. “I’m proud to have helped secure this funding through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law so we can utilize water more efficiently in Northern Nevada and conserve thousands of gallons per year.”

Senators Cortez Masto and Rosen have been leaders in the Senate working to combat drought. Earlier this year, both senators joined a letter calling on the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition & Forestry to address long-term drought in the Farm Bill. Senator Cortez Masto fought to deliver $4 billion to combat drought in the states bordering the Colorado River in the Inflation Reduction Act that Senator Rosen also supported. Both senators also helped pass the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which will continue to make a historic amount of funding available for water and wastewater infrastructure improvements across the country over five years.
