ICYMI: Cortez Masto Celebrates President Biden’s Executive Action on Immigration

In Case You Missed It, this week, Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) celebrated the Biden administration’s executive action to protect hardworking mixed-status families and Dreamers in Nevada and across the country.

The Nevada Independent: New Biden executive order provides pathway to legal status for thousands of Nevadans

In an executive order unveiled Tuesday, President Joe Biden announced that undocumented spouses of American citizens who meet certain legal criteria will be shielded from deportation as they seek legal residency.

Signed just days after the 12th anniversary of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) policy, immigration advocates in Nevada and beyond cheered Biden’s move as the single biggest expansion of undocumented rights since the Obama-era landmark executive order, which provided work authorization and deportation protection to some children brought to the U.S. illegally by their parents…

Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV) wrote an op-ed in Univision on Sunday calling on Biden to “deliver for immigrant families” by providing undocumented spouses with legal status and work authorization. She shared the story of a Nevadan named Elena who divorced her undocumented husband — not because she wanted to, but because her husband’s lack of a Social Security number kept her from passing a background check needed to get a job.

“I’m thrilled to celebrate this incredible step forward,” Cortez Masto said in a statement. “The Biden administration understands that you can invest in border security and stand with immigrant families — it’s the right thing to do, and it’s the smart thing to do.”

Both Cortez Masto and Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve were on the stage at Tuesday’s announcement at the White House, while Sen. Jacky Rosen (D-NV) attended the event as well.

KOLO: Cortez Masto applauds Biden’s new order on immigration

U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto is applauding President Biden’s newest executive order on immigration.

The White House announced Tuesday that the Biden administration will, in the coming months, allow certain spouses of U.S. citizens without legal status to apply for permanent residency and eventually citizenship.

In a statement, Cortez Masto called it the biggest policy victory for immigrant families since DACA.

“I’m thrilled to celebrate this incredible step forward,” said Senator Cortez Masto. “The Biden administration understands that you can invest in border security and stand with immigrant families — it’s the right thing to do, and it’s the smart thing to do.”

KLAS: Nevada leaders hail ‘landmark decision’ protecting spouses from deportation

Nevada Democrats and Progressive leaders applauded the Biden administration’s Tuesday announcement to keep mixed-status families together under “parole in place.”

Biden issued an executive order that adds protections for undocumented spouses of U.S. citizens, reducing the risk that children might see one of their parents deported. The expansion of parole in place, a program that’s currently used to provide papers to immediate family of military service members, will affect about 1.1 million undocumented spouses nationwide…

U.S. Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) called it the biggest policy victory for immigrant families since DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) 12 years ago.

Cortez Masto said in Nevada alone, there are nearly 136,000 U.S. citizens living with at least one family member who is undocumented and 10,500 Dreamers contributing to our communities and paying taxes…

KUNR: Biden announces protections for undocumented spouses of U.S. citizens

President Biden announced an executive order on June 18 that would protect half a million undocumented spouses of U.S. citizens from deportation.

Under the new policy, undocumented spouses who have been in the U.S. for at least 10 years will be given a pathway to citizenship and the ability to work legally.

It will also extend a path to noncitizen minors and stepchildren of American citizens…

Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto applauded Biden’s action. “Those two actions that the administration has taken are important because at the end of the day, it is about keeping those families together, families that wanna contribute to our economy and pay taxes and [want to be] a crucial part of our future here,” she said.

U.S. Senator from Nevada Catherine Cortez Masto applauded the Biden administration’s move, saying it will affect thousands of people here in the Silver State.

Cortez Masto said, “What the administration has done is have a positive impact for families in Nevada and across the country who want to stay together and be an essential part of our workforce.”

According to the senator’s office, here in Nevada, there are nearly 136,000 U.S. citizens living with at least one family member who is undocumented. There are also more than 10,000 so called Dreamers who pay taxes. The Biden administration’s new program makes it easier for American employers to sponsor Dreamers for visas, which can also help lead to permanent residency in the future.

Senator Catherine Cortez Masto also reacted as follows…: “I’m glad the President heard my calls to take action to allow spouses of U.S. citizens and Dreamers to work legally and keep their families together. This is great news for Nevadans and I will continue to fight to defend immigrant families and fix our broken immigration system.”
