Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV) issued the following statement in response to the Supreme Court’s decision to protect access to the abortion pill mifepristone.
“Mifepristone is a safe and effective medication, and I’m glad to see the Supreme Court unanimously dismiss this outrageous attack against it. While today is a victory for women’s reproductive health care, anti-choice politicians across the country are continuing to threaten women’s rights. I’ll keep doing everything I can to protect women’s reproductive freedom, and that includes ensuring access to mifepristone nationwide.”
In January, Cortez Masto joined an amicus brief urging the Court to protect access to mifepristone – a safe, effective medication that accounts for 63% of abortions in the U.S. She’s also cosponsored a resolution in support of the abortion pill. Last year, she took on one of the nation’s biggest pharmaceutical wholesalers to expand access to mifepristone and ensure Nevadans can access the abortion pill in retail pharmacies, including at Walgreens and CVS.
