Maryland Parkway Corridor Is Home To 90,000 Nevada Families and Supports 80,000 Jobs
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) and Jacky Rosen (D-Nev.) announced a grant award of $149 million from the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) to the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada’s (RTC) Maryland Parkway Bus Rapid Transit project – the largest individual USDOT transit investment the RTC has ever received. This funding the senators secured was included in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law that both senators helped pass, and will improve transportation efficiency, enhance safety, and upgrade and expand bus service along the corridor.
“The Maryland Parkway corridor plays a key role in driving Southern Nevada’s economy, from moving our workers to supporting small businesses, and I’m proud to have advocated for this funding,” said Senator Cortez Masto. “This grant will help RTC purchase cleaner buses, be more efficient, shorten wait times, and improve road safety for transit riders, cyclists, and pedestrians alike. I will keep working to strengthen our economy, revitalize our infrastructure, and keep Nevadans safe.”

I’ll continue advocating for Nevada to receive its fair share of federal funding.”

Maynard, RTC CEO. “As a vital corridor for the Las Vegas Valley, this project extends more than 13 miles and includes many major destinations and employment centers, including the Harry Reid International Airport, UNLV, Boulevard Mall, Sunrise Hospital, and Las Vegas Medical District, better connecting residents to jobs, education, medical services, shopping and neighborhood services.”
Maryland Parkway corridor is home to 90,000 Nevada families, and it supports 80,000 jobs while carrying approximately 9,000 transit riders and 35,000 vehicles daily. RTC’s Maryland Parkway Bus Rapid Transit project will expand transit service along Maryland Parkway, including enhanced transit stations, shared bus-bike lanes, wider sidewalks, and improvements to lighting and landscaping.
Senators Cortez Masto and Rosen worked to pass the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to create good-paying jobs, upgrade infrastructure such as roads and broadband in Nevada, and update schools across the country. Both Senators have already successfully secured more than $10 million in funding to support RTC’s project planning and cleaner bus technology along Maryland Parkway.
Through her seat at the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs, which has jurisdiction over the USDOT’s federal transit programs, Cortez Masto has consistently advocated for increased support for vital transportation projects throughout Nevada. As part of her Innovation State Initiative, she secured multiple transportation provisions in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, including fundingto support smart cities that use technology to solve transportation challenges. This funding is already benefiting Las Vegas and the RTC and enhancing traffic safety and efficiency.
