Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senators Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) and Jacky Rosen (D-Nev.) announced that the Nevada Clean Energy Fund will receive $7.7 million through the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Clean School Bus Program to help our school districts purchase and install 25 electric school buses across the state. Senator Cortez Masto led the effort in passing the Clean School Bus Program as part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to provide $5 billion over the course of five years to replace school buses with zero- and low-emission school buses.
“I’m thrilled to see these federal dollars I secured for clean buses coming to Nevada to help our schools lower their energy costs and keep kids safe and healthy,” said Senator Cortez Masto. “Nevada’s clean energy boom is creating jobs and helping students and families across the state, and I’ll always fight to provide Nevadans with the resources they need to succeed.”
“Through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which I helped write and pass, Nevada’s schools will receive nearly $8 million for electric school buses that will benefit students across our state,” said Senator Rosen. “This critical funding will help modernize our schools’ transportation system, leading to lower energy costs and cleaner air for our students and their families.”
Created in 2017, the Nevada Clean Energy Fund (NCEF) is a nonprofit organization that provides financial and technical resources to help create clean energy jobs in Nevada, reduce energy costs, and accelerate our clean energy transition. NCEF works with school districts across Nevada to support school bus electrification efforts and save schools money on bus maintenance and fuel costs while reducing air pollution.
Senators Cortez Masto and Rosen worked to pass the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to create good-paying jobs, upgrade infrastructure such as roads and broadband in Nevada, and update schools across the country. As part of her Innovation State Initiative, Senator Cortez Masto secured multiple transportation provisions in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to help Nevada communities plan for and build infrastructure for electric vehicles, including clean school buses, make transit to school safer for students, make critical updates to school infrastructure that improve energy efficiency and reduce costs, and support smart cities that use technology to solve transportation challenges. The Department of Energy has rolled out Senator Cortez Masto’s Renew America’s Schools grant program available to communities for school improvements across the country.
