Washington, DC – Today, following the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee’s hearing on the nomination of Elaine Chao to serve as Secretary of Transportation in the Trump Administration, Nevada Senator Catherine Cortez Masto released the following statement supporting Secretary Chao’s nomination:
“The Department of Transportation has the crucial task of maintaining our roads, airports, railroads and other critical transportation infrastructure in prime condition with the goal of keeping our country connected, driving economic growth and keeping Americans safe. During my recent one-on-one visit with Elaine Chao, she made clear to me that she understands the critical role that DOT plays in strengthening Nevada’s tourism-based economy.
“After a thorough review of her record, I will vote in favor of Secretary Chao’s nomination to serve as our country’s next Secretary of Transportation. While we don’t see eye to eye on all issues, Secretary Chao’s previous experience as Deputy Secretary of Transportation, Director of the Peace Corps, and Secretary of Labor shows that she’s well-prepared to run a federal agency of the size and scope of DOT. I look forward to learning more about Secretary Chao’s plans to improve our country’s infrastructure and how funds for these infrastructure projects will benefit states like Nevada.”
