Washington, DC – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) today released the following statement in response to a bomb threat at the Jewish Community Center of Southern Nevada and the rise of hate crimes and hate groups following the election of President Trump:
“Last night, a bomb threat was reported at the Jewish Community Center of Southern Nevada. In the last two months, swastika graffiti were found at three separate Las Vegas locations: at a Mexican consulate, a synagogue, and a local high school where the majority of students are Latino. These despicable acts are not unique to Nevada. Every day, we hear more and more stories like these – of hate crimes being committed across the country at an alarming rate. The Administration does not do enough to acknowledge these acts or condemn the overwhelming level of vitriol plaguing our country. If we truly want to heal our divided nation, it must start from the White House and the president himself. It is time for President Trump to help us put an end to this – to stop his use of hateful rhetoric, to reject intolerance, and to remind Americans that we are country that values respect despite our differences.”
