Cortez Masto Statement Opposing Confirmation of HUD Secretary Nominee Ben Carson

Washington, DC –Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) released the following statement on her upcoming vote against the confirmation of President Trump’s Department of Housing and Urban Development Secretary nominee, Dr. Ben Carson:

“Dr. Carson has said himself that he is not qualified to the lead the Department of Housing and Urban Development, and I completely agree. I was Nevada’s attorney general when the housing crisis hit.  With tens of thousands of Nevadans facing foreclosure or eviction, I designed a program that would help working families stay in their homes when they could no longer afford rent or mortgage payments. After meeting with him and listening to his answers at his confirmation hearing, I was not convinced that I could count on Dr. Carson to fight on behalf of hardworking Americans. I cannot place the lives of thousands of Nevadans who depend on HUD in the hands of someone who is ill-equipped to lead it. I will not support Dr. Carson’s nomination to serve as the next HUD Secretary.”
