Cortez Masto Applauds Nevada Legislature’s Joint Resolution to Oppose the Revival of Yucca Mountain

Washington, DC – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) released the following statement in support of the Nevada Legislature’s joint resolution to oppose the Trump administration’s proposal to restart the licensing process for creating a nuclear repository in Yucca Mountain:

“Nevadans will not stand idle while President Trump irresponsibly forces our backyards to become the country’s dumping site for nuclear waste. I commend the Nevada Legislature for coming together and introducing a joint resolution to stop President Trump’s reckless attempt to revive the Yucca Mountain repository site. Time and again, Nevadans have made it clear that we will not accept any plan that brings radioactive waste to our state, shipping it straight through neighborhoods and in close proximity to our communities. This legislation sends a strong message to the Trump administration that we will do everything we can to protect Nevadans and our environment. Nevadans have the right to their safety and security and we will not back down.”
