Cortez Masto Statement on Failed Vote to Overturn BLM Methane Rule

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) released the following statement on the failed vote to overturn the Bureau of Land Management’s Methane Rule via the Congressional Review Act:

“The Methane Rule puts in place commonsense and cost-effective safeguards designed to reduce the amount of natural gas and methane wasted and released into our atmosphere in order to protect the air we breathe, cut down on potent greenhouse gas emissions, and ensure that taxpayers receive royalties from public land use. Overturning the rule would be irresponsible and would undermine decades’ worth of progress on climate change and conservation efforts. I have been a strong opponent of the Republican plan to roll back the Methane Rule and I am pleased that it has failed to proceed. I will continue to fight any efforts that would risk the safety of our communities and the protection of our environment.”
