Cortez Masto Tours Community Health Alliance Clinic, Hosts Roundtable Discussion

Reno, NV – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) toured the Community Health Alliance Clinic (CHA) to witness how the CHA works with the Reno-Sparks community to provide quality affordable healthcare. After the tour, Senator Cortez Masto hosted a roundtable discussion with healthcare professionals, experts, and constituents to discuss the benefits of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). The group also discussed how the ACA’s repeal and the implementation of the American Health Care Act (AHCA) could prove to be devastating for patients, hospitals, and healthcare professionals.

“The CHA Clinic in Reno provides much needed quality healthcare to the community and I am grateful for the opportunity to have toured their facilities and met the wonderful staff that keep the clinic running seamlessly,” said Senator Cortez Masto. “Speaking with patients, constituents, experts, and the clinic’s administration showed the significant impact the ACA has had in improving the access to quality affordable healthcare and the dire consequences Nevadans would face from the repeal of the ACA and the enactment of the AHCA. We must oppose the Administration’s reckless and destructive effort to end the ACA. Not only will the costs of healthcare skyrocket, the health and lives of millions of Americans will be gravely at risk.”

“We were very happy to have Senator Cortez Masto visit Community Health Alliance today,” said Chuck Duarte, Chief Executive Officer of the Community Health Alliance. “It was a good opportunity for our patients, providers and staff to be able to tell her about the real impacts of repealing the Affordable Care Act.”

During the roundtable discussion, Senator Cortez Masto and Mr. Duarte were joined by Dr. Jason P. Crawford, Chief Medical Officer of the Community Health Alliance; Dr. John Packham, Director of Health Policy Research at UNR School of Medicine and the Nevada State Office of Rural Health; Jessica Kleinedler, Constituent and Owner of Under the Rose Brewery; and patients who would be affected by the repeal of the ACA.
