Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) applauded the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD’s) announcement that Nevada’s communities will receive more than $4 million in federal dollars to increase access to affordable housing, improve housing conditions, and promote financial literacy among tenants and homeowners.
“As Nevada’s population expands, we must safeguard access to high quality, affordable housing,” said Cortez Masto. “These grants will support programs that help Nevadans manage their finances, maintain their properties, and protect themselves from predatory lenders. Funding from HUD was essential to our state’s recovery from the housing meltdown of 2008. I will continue to working with HUD to ensure that our communities have the resources they need to keep rebuilding and prospering.”
The following funds will be awarded to each city/county under HUD’s Housing Counseling Grant Program:
- North Las Vegas: $23,557
- These funds will be administered by Nevada Partners Inc., which serves the residents of North Las Vegas by collaborating with private employers, community and faith-based groups, and public agencies to build a healthy, sustainable community where all residents achieve their full potential through effective education, meaningful employment, safe and affordable housing, and vibrant civic and cultural engagement.
- Las Vegas: $ 3,157,888.00
- These funds will be administered by the Southern Nevada Regional Housing Authority, which serves the residents of Clark County and works to provide quality and sustainable housing options and opportunities that promote empowerment and self-sufficiency.
The following funds will be awarded to each city/county under HUD’s Capital Fund Award Program:
- Reno: $943,107
- These funds will be administered by the City of Reno Housing Authority, which serves the residents of Washoe County and works to provide fair, sustainable, quality housing and offers a stable foundation for low-income families to pursue economic opportunities, become self-sufficient and improve their quality of life.
- These funds will be administered by the City of Reno Housing Authority, which serves the residents of Washoe County and works to provide fair, sustainable, quality housing and offers a stable foundation for low-income families to pursue economic opportunities, become self-sufficient and improve their quality of life.
- Las Vegas: $3,157,888
