Winnemucca, Nev. – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) released the following statement after touring Pershing and Humboldt General Hospitals in Lovelock and Winnemucca:
“Pershing and Humboldt General Hospitals play a critical role in providing general, urgent, long-term, and emergency health care to Lovelock and Winnemucca as well as the surrounding areas. Without Pershing and Humboldt General Hospitals, local residents would lose vital access to a broad range of medical services – services that, in some cases, keep rural Nevadans healthy and save their lives. The compassionate and caring staff at these hospitals understand the great responsibility they have to the community they serve. I thank them for their strong dedication and service.
“There is no doubt that rural hospitals like Pershing and Humboldt General Hospitals have substantially benefitted from the Affordable Care Act (ACA). The ACA has provided essential support to rural communities and the health providers and clinics that serve them. This support has lowered costs, improved the quality of short and long term care and helped thousands of Nevadans get access to critical health care. In order to ensure that Humboldt and Pershing General Hospitals, and other rural hospitals throughout Nevada, can continue to serve their communities and offer life-changing support, elected officials must commit themselves to strengthening the ACA and Medicaid. No American should have their quality, affordable health care ripped away from them because of partisanship in Washington, D.C. I will continue to fight to improve the ACA and Medicaid, and work with Republicans and Democrats to fix the ACA and Medicaid’s problems, so that our rural hospitals may continue to serve our communities and save lives.”
