Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) and Dean Heller (R-Nev.) announced that over $190 million was included in the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) bill approved by the Senate for defense-related projects in the State of Nevada:
“I am proud to have worked with my colleagues in a bipartisan way to ensure that our military facilities in Nevada, and throughout our country, receive the vital resources they need to keep our country safe,” said Cortez Masto. “It is crucial that Nevada’s naval and air force facilities at Nellis and Fallon receive the investments necessary to enhance our military readiness, revitalize outdated infrastructure that serve our troops, properly train our brave airmen and sailors, and build a cyber-ready military that can respond to the military threats we face both today and tomorrow.”
“Nevada is home to several military installations and I’m proud of our servicemen and women in Nevada who work tirelessly to keep us safe,” said Heller. “The National Defense Authorization Act gives our military the resources it needs to fulfill what I see as the primary role of the federal government: providing a strong national defense and protecting its citizens. This legislation also authorizes a pay raise for our troops and includes accountability measures and streamlined protocols to ensure taxpayer dollars are used efficiently. At a time when we’re facing emerging threats at home and abroad, it’s critical that our Armed Forces are well-equipped to confront these challenges.”
The FY18 NDAA authorizes millions of dollars in funding for multiple defense-related projects in Nevada including:
- Nellis Air Force Base, general construction: $61,000,000
- Nellis Air Force Base, Red Flag 5th Generation Facility Addition: $23,000,000
- Nellis Air Force Base, Virtual Warfare Center Operations Facility: $38,000,000
- Naval Air Station Fallon, wastewater treatment plant (extension of authorization): $11,334,000
- National Nuclear Security Administration: $60,136,000
