Cortez Masto Applauds U.S. Department of Transportation for Emergency Repair Grant

Washington, D.C. – U. S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) applauded the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) for awarding the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) $3 million in emergency repair grants. These investments will provide restoration to roads and highways in Northern Nevada that suffered damage as a result of flooding in January and February 2017.

“I am pleased the U.S. Department of Transportation has provided these necessary funds to help repair broken infrastructure following the damaging storms earlier this year.” said Senator Cortez Masto. “The $3 million investment in the restoration of our roads and highways ensures the public safety of both Nevadans and our many visitors, and ensures the flow of commerce in the areas impacted. The flooding in Northern Nevada earlier this year was devastating, but I am proud that our communities have persevered. I thank the U.S. Department of Transportation for prioritizing the continued prosperity and public safety of our state.”

BACKGROUND:

  • Title 23, U.S.C., Section 125, authorizes an Emergency Relief (ER) program within the U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Highway Administration, for the repair or reconstruction of Federal-aid highways and roads on Federal lands that have suffered serious damage as a result of natural disasters or catastrophic failures from an external cause. These funds are awarded to a state after the President or the governor issues a formal emergency declaration and the state files a request for ER for the cost of damages to its eligible highways.
