Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) released the following statement after Wednesday’s digital day of action and website blackout in support of Dreamers. Cortez Masto organized the day of action to bring attention to Dreamers who are losing DACA and face deportation, and for Congress to urgently pass the Dream Act before the end of the year:
“Each day that Congress fails to protect Dreamers, 122 more young individuals get their DACA protections taken away from them. This means these young men and women could face deportation from the only country they call home, have their work authorizations revoked, be taken from their family and friends, and lose everything they’ve worked so hard to build in this country. Together, I’ve worked with stakeholders throughout America: businesses, non-profits, faith groups, academia, and government to make sure Dreamers know they are not alone in this fight and that we are working to pass the Dream Act now.
“I’ve met Dreamers from Nevada and around the country who symbolize the values of our great nation. They bring diversity, courage, and hardwork, enriching our communities both culturally and economically. I thank all who joined yesterday’s day of action, for showing their solidarity and telling Congress that it is time to stand with Dreamers and pass the Dream Act by the end of the year.”
