Cortez Masto Cosponsors Resolution Celebrating National Tribal Colleges and Universities Week

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) released the following statement in celebration of National Tribal Colleges and Universities Week, which is celebrated from February 11 to February 17, 2018. Cortez Masto is a cosponsor of the bipartisan Senate Resolution recognizing the unique and important role tribal colleges and universities play in providing higher education opportunities for Native students. While Nevada does not have any Tribal college or universities, Nevada Native students attend seven Tribal colleges and universities across the United States, including schools in Kansas, New Mexico, Montana, and North Dakota.

“Tribal colleges and universities provide students across the country with the resources and opportunities they need to follow their dreams and become leaders in their communities. These institutions give Native students a chance to pursue college degrees and gain technical and career skills while also encouraging them to cherish their unique cultural heritage. Nevada tribal members are valued students and faculty members at Tribal colleges and universities across the country. And I am proud to honor all Tribal college and university teachers, faculty, staff and students this week.”
