Las Vegas, Nev. – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) applauded the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) for awarding more than $6.5 million in funding to improve public transportation systems and increase road safety in three Nevada communities.
“As a growing state and a worldwide tourist destination, Nevada has a special interest in strengthening our public transportation infrastructure,” said Cortez Masto. “I thank the U.S. Department of Transportation for supporting our state’s efforts to realize this priority. These funds are essential to maintaining efficient transportation access that connects communities throughout our state, and to improving safety for both the millions of people who call Nevada home and the millions more who visit the Silver State. I am committed to continue working with the federal government to secure more grants like this one to develop more efficient and up-to-date infrastructure and transportation systems that improve the lives of Nevadans and of our tribal communities.”
Providing opportunities and securing federal resources for innovation and transportation projects like these are a focus of Senator Cortez Masto’s #InnovationState agenda to further promote Nevada’s leadership in these areas.
The grant funds will be awarded as follows:
- $4,588,766 to the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) to construct new bus shelters and improve existing bus shelters by adding solar lighting. RTC will also receive funding to make upgrades to its maintenance and passenger facilities.
- $447,480 to the Carson Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO) to replace to busses in the Jump Around Carson (JAC) fleet.
- $1,500,000 to the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe to construct an operations and administrative facility which will improve safety for employees and allow for more efficient transit operations in northwestern Nevada.
