Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) released the following statement applauding the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for awarding the Southern Nevada Regional Housing Authority a grant of $4,845,435 and the City of Reno Housing Authority a grant of $1,446,328 from HUD’s Public Housing Capital Fund program. This program provides funds to public housing agencies for the development, financing, management and modernization of public housing developments.
“Nevada has the lowest supply of affordable homes in the nation, and more than 116,000 low-income Nevada families pay more than half their income toward rent. Due to inadequate funding, only about 24,000 of those families receive federal rental assistance. As Nevada’s economy continues to grow, the federal government must provide more support to Nevadans looking for an affordable home. The grant money from HUD’s Capital Fund will help finance the expansion and improvement of public housing developments in Nevada, ensuring that hardworking, low-income families in Reno and Las Vegas have an affordable roof over their head. I will continue working with HUD to secure grants like these to bring more affordable housing to the Silver State.”
